Tie Rod / Sag Rod

Tie Rod or Sag Rod is a slender structural unit used to handle tensile loads and prevent the separation of two parts. Commonly used in connection with purlins to manage loads parallel to the roof, these rods provide essential support and stability in various applications.

In bicycles, the spokes act as tie rods, while in ships, tie rods are bolts that keep the entire engine structure under compression. When used vertically, they are often referred to as hanger rods.
